Two Early Morning Shootings Investigated by Jackson Police

Neighbors of an east Jackson neighborhood said they are very concerned for their safety after police said two unrelated shootings happened within just two blocks of one another on Friday. A man told police that while he was walking near Lawrence Alley and Oak Street about 4:40 a.m., a man in a tan or gold Jeep Cherokee drove up and shot him in the forearm. He was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The same morning, Jackson Police said a house on Walsh Street was hit, but no injuries were reported. Police are unsure whether the shots came from a moving vehicle or someone on foot. Though the two shootings were just two streets down from one another, police do not believe they are related. People living in the neighborhood said they are very bothered by the danger surrounding them while they sleep. “Unless you are going to work on a job, midnight shift, or leaving a job, there is no reason for you to roam around in our neighborhood,” said a concerned neighbor who lived nearby. Police have not released a description of the suspects or a possible motive for the two cases. Call Jackson Police at (731) 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at (731) 424-8477, if you have any information.
