Man Killed in Carroll County Fire Identified

Authorities have identified the man killed by a fire in Carroll County, Thursday evening. According to Sheriff Andy Dickson, the victim was 62 year-old James David Sykes. The fire happened in the southwest portion of the county along Highway 220. Authorities said the fire started in the home and quickly got out of hand. More than 50 firefighters were called to battle the blaze. Sheriff Dickson said, at this time, the evidence points to the fire being started accidentally. The preliminary investigation showed that Sykes died from burns he suffered along with smoke inhalation.
