HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Chester County woman accused of stealing her grieving friend’s baby’s ashes was back in court, Tuesday. A preliminary hearing for Kelli Stanfield, 20, was supposed to take place but was postponed until next month. The delay is due to a request by the District Attorney General’s office for a mental evaluation for Stanfield. Stanfield was arrested in May after investigators said she stole the stillborn baby’s ashes from inside her parents’ apartment. She faces a charge of theft. Stanfield remains free on her own recognizance.
