Democrats Announce Tennessee First Jobs Plan

JACKSON, Tenn. – Democratic leaders and elected officials came out in support of the party’s Tennessee First Jobs Plan in Jackson Tuesday. State Representative Johnny Shaw (D-District 80) joined Corrie Currie, who is a candidate on the Democratic primary ballot for State House District 73, and Meryl Rice, who is a candidate on the Democratic primary ballot for State Senate District 26, on the steps of the Madison County Courthouse in support of the effort. The candidates said the jobs plan would empower responsible homegrown businesses and use common sense to keep jobs in the volunteer state. The Tennessee First Act is designed to put Tennessee and it’s workers first by giving preference to in-state business for state projects according to the speakers. “That’s the goal here, jobs for Tennesseans. We are not selfish, but we want to take care of Tennesseans first. If we take care of Tennessee, Tennessee will be a greater state than what it is now,” said Shaw. Candidates said if they are elected they will work to push the plan into the upcoming general assembly meeting beginning in January. State Representative Jimmy Eldridge, who is running for re-election and is on the Republican primary ballot, currently represents District 73 in the state house. Senator Dolores Gresham, who is running for re-election and is on the Republican primary ballot, is the state senator for District 26.
