Son Charged in Mother’s Murder
A judge has sent the case of a Murray man charged with killing his mother to a grand jury. Calloway District Judge Randall Hutchens on Thursday found probable cause to give the panel the case of 34-year-old Michael Joseph Burke. Police say Burke stabbed his mother, 55-year-old Karen McClellan, at least twenty-five times on July 9. Murray Police Officer Angel Clere testified that Burke told officers he knew why they were at his home, saying “Because I killed my mother.” In court Thursday, Burke appeared to have been crying as officers led him out after his hearing. Burke’s next pre-trial hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. CDT Aug. 17.
