West Tennesseans React to Movie Shooting

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson Police Department said it will have extra patrols at all of the city’s movie theaters this weekend. Despite Friday’s shooting, area theaters that evening stayed pretty busy. “I wouldn’t have came out here if I didn’t feel safe,” said moviegoer Daniel Clark. JPD said it has beefed up patrols at local theaters like Hollywood Cinema in light of the deadly shooting in Aurora, Colo. during the premier of “The Dark Knight Rises,” the latest moving the The Batman trilogy. “You always gotta watch out. People are crazy,” said moviegoer Michael McKelvy. Despite the Colorado shootings many West Tennesseans told 7 Eyewitness News it would not stop their weekend plans. “You still gotta live life. You still got to have fun. You can’t let all that stuff just keep you in the house all day,” said McKelvy. Michael McKelvy and his friend drove more than an hour from Camden to see the Dark Knight Rises. While these two said they feel safe, the Jackson Police Department said it will have even more officers than usual on hand and on call at Hollywood Cinema and the other theaters in the Hub City. 7 Eyewitness News did ask the owners of Hollywood Cinema and Cinema Planet about whether they have made any changes to their safety practices, but neither wanted to comment.
