GUYS, Tenn.- The embattled pastor from Guys, jailed in California for copyright infringement involving the name of the 7th Day Adventist Church has been freed. Pastor Walter McGill of the Creation 7th Day Adventist Church served 30 days in jail in San Bernadino, California after being arrested by U.S. Marshals. His assistant pastor, Lucan Chartier served a shorter sentence and has also been released. Both were wanted on federal warrants from West Tennessee for failing to comply with a court order to take the ‘7th Day Adventist’ out of their church’s name. Both were released last week. According to a recorded statement, McGill seemed prepared to go back. “I cannot and will not recant the exercise of my faith and religious practice as long as I remain a free man,” said Pastor Walter McGill. “Should I be forced by conscious to violate future court orders, let it be well understood, I must answer to the Supreme Court of Heaven which will utlimately decide by eternal destiny.” Throughout his time in jail, McGill fasted from all solid foods. He said now that he is free he will continue to fast an additional 10 days to complete a full 40 days.
