Camden Police Chief Suspended By Mayor

CAMDEN, Tenn. – Camden Police Chief George Smith has been suspended by the mayor for five days. Mayor Elvin Johnson said Chief Smith purchased two patrol cars without approval from the board. Mayor Johnson said Chief Smith got authorization to look at patrol cars for the station, but not to buy one. Chief Smith told 7 Eyewitness News that Mayor Johnson signed the papers, then changed his mind after the two patrol cars had been purchased. Chief Smith began his suspension on Tuesday and will return to work on Sunday.
