Storm Damage

JACKSON, Tenn. – Wednesday night’s weather has left many West Tennesseans wind blown, drenched, and powerless. Downed trees and power lines plagued much of the area as a fast moving and very intense storm raged through West Tennessee. At the height of the storm Jackson Energy Authority, Southwest Tennessee Electric and Gibson Electric reported more than 13,000 customers without power. As of late Wednesday night, still more than 6,000 of those customer were in the dark. Downed trees and power lines caused most the trouble in Madison County. One tree on North Highland Avenue near North Side High School fell into a power line, blocking most the roadway. Almost every dispatcher told 7 Eyewitness News West Tennessee had lots of trees down across roadways. McKenzie officials said not only did they have trees and power lines down, but Medlin’s Outlet Store had a large sign down and part of the roof had been torn off. Electric companies urged customers to be patient while their crews work to restore power. JEA said their customers should have power restored in the next hour.
