Mother Arrested After Toddler Gets Burned
A 15-month-old D’Iberville girl remains in critical condition from burns over fifty percent of her body. The toddler is a patient at a Birmingham burn center. Relatives say they expect she will remain hospitalized more than a week. The lower part of her body is burned from her waist down. Police say she was severely burned by scalding water. Sgt. Terry Hines says the child had been taken to a Biloxi hospital about 10 a.m. Saturday. Police arrested the mother, 24-year-old Jessica Ann Saunders, on felony charges of child neglect and possession with intent to distribute cannabinoids. Hines said a second child who lives in the home was taken into temporary protective custody. It was unclear whether Saunders had an attorney.
