Woman Accused of Selling Beer Illegally

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. – A Jackson woman is jailed after authorities said she was selling beer illegally. According to a news release from the Madison County Sheriff‘s Department, Carrie Mae Fowler, 58, is charged with the unlawful sale of alcoholic beverage. Investigators said she is the operator of Club Poise in the 3800 block of Highway 45 North. Deputies said they responded to a call of a fight at Club Poise shortly after 2:00 a.m., Thursday. Upon investigation, authorities found that Fowler‘s business license was expired and there was no beer permit present at the property. There was also not a beer permit on file at the Madison County Clerk‘s Office. According to the report, Fowler told investigators that she was not selling beer to customers. Instead, she claimed she was charging customers to come into the bar and giving them free beer. Fowler‘s arraignment is set for September 14, 2012, in General Sessions Court, Division I, at 8:30 a.m. Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork stated that he will have deputies patrolling the area to check for illegal beer sales at the bar. The investigation is continuing.
