Police Investigating Fight Outside of Local Bar

JACKSON, Tenn. – Mayor Jerry Gist gave a stern warning to all Jackson night clubs and bars after an early Thursday morning fight outside a local bar. City officials, residents, and patrons said they are fed up with violence surrounding night life in the Hub City. Jackson Police said the fight broke out at 2 a.m.,Thursday. Residents told 7 Eyewitness News their safe night life is not so safe. “Yeah, it’s dangerous to be out there now,” said concerned resident Milburn Allen. Police said Antwan White pulled a pistol on another man during a fight over a drug deal, but officers arrived in just the nick of time. Some residents said night life crime is getting out of hand. “They’ll just drive by and shoot you and keep going,” said Allen. Police arrested and charged Antwan White with disorderly conduct, possession of a firearm, and possession of stolen property. Mayor Jerry Gist said he wants to hold business owners accountable for their customers actions. “We’ve got to hold our night club owners responsible. They have to have security there they have to step up,” said Mayor Gist. 7 Eyewitness News spoke with Jimmy D’s employees, and they said there is only so much owners can do. Residents agree. “The business owners, they can’t help what walks in the door they have no control over it,” said Allen. “Normally what they’ve done, there’s people who end up drinking too much, get in a fight, put them on the streets and call us to come get them. We have other things to do,” said Mayor Gist. Mayor Gist said if bars and businesses continue to have problems, the city will take the necessary actions to get rid of them, something the city did earlier this year with the club, Taboo. Antwan White is currently being held in the Madison County Jail.
