JMCSS Open Enrollment Meetings Begin

JACKSON, Tenn.- For the first time, parents of students in the Jackson-Madison County School System were able to ask questions about the newly proposed open enrollment option being considered by the district. Monday, board members held members held two public meetings to answer questions and get feedback from parents. Open enrollment would lift zoning restrictions for more than 12,000 students in the district, allowing parents more choices in the children’s education. “We want to make sure before we present a policy to the board from them to adopt and start working on administrative procedures that we have considered everything that we need to consider relative to the families in our district that we serve in the community,” said Deputy Superintendent Doris Battle of the Jackson-Madison County School System. School board members said the will be two more meetings to discuss open enrollment that will work on designing a plan. Those will be October 2 and 4 in the board room, located at 310 North Parkway.
