Jury Convicts Man for Kidnapping and Attempted Manslaughter

JACKSON, Tenn.- A verdict in the two day trial of a man who authorities said shot a woman after having sex with her behind an East Madison County church. Alvin “:A.J.” Waller, Junior, 34, was found guilty of shooting a woman in August 0f 2011, while parked in a field behind Grace Baptist Church. The jury found Waller guilty of attempted voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and especially aggravated kidnapping. He was originally charged with attempted first degree murder. Investigators said the 32-year-old victim said she and Waller engaged in consensual sex in a car parked behind the church. The victim said Waller then shot her in the head with a handgun. Waller’s sentencing is set for October 29. Waller is still facing separate unrelated charges of especially aggravated rape and especially aggravated kidnapping from 2011.
