HARDEMAN COUNTY, Tenn.- Almost five months later, a preliminary hearing has been set for the two Mississippi women charged in the kidnapping and murder of a Hardeman County family, a case that gripped West Tennessee. The preliminary hearing for Teresa Mayes and Mary Frances Mayes, the wife and mother of the man accused in the crimes against the Bain family is set for October 1. Mary Frances, Adam Mayes’ mother has been charged with four counts of conspiracy to commit especially aggravated kidnapping and two counts of aggravated kidnapping. Teresa, Mayes’ wife has been charged with two counts of first degree murder and two counts of aggravated kidnapping. Their original hearing was scheduled for last May, but was delayed due to what their attorneys called incomplete mental evaluations. Adam Mayes has been accused of killing Joann Bain and one of her daughters, Adrienne, 14 in their Hardeman County home, then kidnapped the two youngest daughters, Alexandria and Kyliyah. Mayes, who was a close family friend, committed suicide as officers closed in on him and the Bain girls in Union County, Mississippi on May 10. 7 Eyewitness News will be at the October 1 hearing and will have complete coverage.
