JACKSON, Tenn.- Being ready for an emergency can now be as simple as picking up your smartphone, thanks to a new free app released Monday by the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency. September is National Preparedness month, and the ReadyTN application does just that, it helps you be prepared. It gives weather alerts, shelter information, road construction and accident updates, and local government contacts. It also provides checklists and tips to help you be prepared for any emergency situation. This is the first application the state has created and users seem to be pleased with the outcome. “Actually I like it, it’s pretty informative. If anything comes up you know right then,” said John Byrum. “I think you owe it to your citizens to make them as informed and give them as many tools as you can to help them out,” said Bo Bennett. TEMA officials told 7 Eyewitness News the app cost them less than $300 to launch…since a state employee designed the application.
