ADAMSVILLE, Tenn. – By a vote of 12 to 8, the McNairy County Commission postponed a proposal the vote that would place a referendum of the ballot this November to build new schools. School Board members say they need new elementary schools in Adamsville and Selmer. Jeff Lipford is a Commissioner who voted in favor of the proposal. He told us Selmer Elementary School is old and needs to be replaced. “The safety, the traffic and the other thing is the building us outdated for technology and the effectiveness of teaching in a building that old,” Lipford said. If the Commission had approved the proposal, residents would have voted for a sales tax or wheel tax to pay for the schools. The bill for the two schools and other school projects would be $25 million.
