GIBSON, Tenn. – Three Gibson County residents are in custody, after officials said they busted them for having dozens of meth labs. On Thursday night, officials quarantined a house on South Main Street in Gibson, right across from a post office. Residents told 7 Eyewitness News they cannot believe such a big drug bust could be made in Gibson. “I mean, no one would think, ‘Oh, there’s a meth bust in Gibson.’ More like Jackson or some place like that,” resident Keirra Coleman said. Officials with the Drug Task Force’s 28th District arrested Douglas Stoops, 50, his son Zachary Stoops, 23, and Lesley Coleman, 24. All three have been charged with promoting to manufacture methamphetamine, along with several other drug-related charges. Officials said it was an “extremely large cleanup,” because they found more than 60 one-pot meth labs. “It’s crazy. I mean, I can’t believe three people would actually do that many drugs,” resident Kanhia Bolden said. Neighbors told 7 Eyewitness News they are surprised about the arrests. They said they have never seen anything unusual happen at that house. “I’ve walked past here going to church, or hanging out with my friends, and there would be a bunch of cars over, and people talking, drinking, but I never even minded anything. I just minded my own business,” resident Trent Walters said. Walters added it is not a bad neighborhood. “You can go out and have fun without doing any criminal things,” he said. Residents said they hope more is done in West Tennessee to curb the drug problem. All three have bonds set at $25,000 each. They will appear in Gibson County General Sessions Court in Humboldt next Wednesday at 9 a.m.
