Judge Dismisses Suit Against City of Bolivar
BOLIVAR, Tenn. – The lawsuit against the City of Bolivar filed by a former Bolivar Police Chief has been dismissed. According to a news release, Judge J. Daniel Breen dismissed all seven of Former Chief Bill Irons’ claims against the city. Irons claimed his dismissal was connected to racial discrimination. He also claimed city officials fired him in retaliation for Irons refusing Stevens “requests for unlawful arrests.” “The court‘s decision confirms that the city did not discriminate against Mr. Irons when it terminated his employment,” Mayor Barrett Stevens said. “I am especially pleased that Judge Breen found that there was no evidence to support the irresponsible claim that racial discrimination played a role in Irons‘s dismissal.” Attorneys John Burleson, Dale Conder, and Latosha Dexter with the law firm Rainey, Kizer, Reviere & Bell PLC represented the defendants.
