Residents Speak Out: Keep Kids Away from Guns

JACKSON, Tenn. – Jackson residents are speaking out about gun violence among some of the city’s youth. This comes after two juveniles were shot Saturday within hours of each other. Early Saturday afternoon police responded to a shots fired call in the Carver Avenue area. According to police, a 17-year-old boy was seriously injured from a gunshot. Just hours later, police said a 12-year-old boy was shot twice near East Pointe Apartments. “It’s just a regular thing out here in this neighborhood. I mean regular! It’s just like going to the grocery store,” said East Jackson resident Buddy Lockert. Residents said they do not want to see crime become a regular occurrence for Jackson youth. “If we could come together, in the city, as a united force to find something for your youth to do, that would be a great thing to happen,” LaSandra Gill said. The 17-year-old boy remains in the hospital, and the 12-year-old has been treated and released. Police said no arrests have been made in either shooting.
