Copper Stolen from Church A/C Units

MCNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. – McNairy County investigators are looking for a brazen thief who dismantled a 5-ton air conditioner from a church in Bethel Springs. When pastor Randy Smith came to the Bethel Springs church, he found parts of the air conditioner scattered across the church’s parking lot. “This church was closed for 10 years when we came out here and the Lord blessed us with a new facility..for somebody to destroy part of it…it hurts it really hurts,” said Smith. McNairy investigators say someone stole the copper coils from one unit and disabled 3 others to sell them as scrap metal for money. The coils were stolen between Sunday night and Monday morning. Smith says he doesn’t understand how people could attack the house of God because it’s there to help. “If these folks would have come and asked for help we would of helped then there was no need for them to steal form God’s house,” said Smith. Investigators say thieves tried to steal more coils from the units but may have been burned by the freon in the compressor line. McNairy County Investigators are asking anyone with information or see anyone with unexplained burns on their hands or face to call the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department.
