Operation UNITE Burns One-Millionth Pill
Law enforcement agencies in eastern Kentucky have burned the millionth pill area police have confiscated. The ceremony took place Monday in Owsley County. U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers attended the event in Booneville and presented lock boxes to area sheriff’s departments so residents can turn in unneeded pills to be held for the next visit of the Pill Dragon. The traveling incinerator is a project of Operation UNITE. The device was used in the ceremony Monday. Dan Smoot of UNITE said many youths’ first drug experience comes by taking their parents’ or grandparents’ old prescriptions, making the adults what he termed an “accidental dealer.”
