Pistol Whipping and Shooting Suspect Arrested

JACKSON, Tenn. – A man wanted for hitting a woman with a gun and shooting a teenage girl is now in custody. According to Jackson police, Jonas Reid, 32, was seen outside the area of West King and Prospect Streets gang unit investigators, Tuesday afternoon. Once Reid saw police, he allegedly ran from officers. The officers chased him to a residence in the 300 block of West King Street. Police said they set up a perimeter around the house and Reid surrendered shortly afterward. Police believe that, on October 3, Jonas Reid struck a 27-year-old woman in the face with a pistol and fractured her jaw. Two days later, Reid is accused of shooting a 16-year-old girl in the ankle after she intervened in a fight between Reid and her brother. Reid was arraigned in Jackson City Court Thursday morning on the two counts of aggravated assault and an additional charge of evading arrest for running from officers. He remains in custody at the Madison County jail on $50,000 bond. His next scheduled court date on those charges is Oct. 25 in Jackson City Court. Reid also faces a charge of violation of probation out of Madison County Circuit Court, Division III. He was serving a sentence of two years on state probation for possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, criminal impersonation, driving on revoked license third offense, violation of open container law, violation of financial responsibility law and violation of light law. He has a scheduled probation violation hearing on Nov. 16 in Circuit Court.
