JACKSON Tenn. – According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, violent crime over the last year is up by 22%. Crime rates have been steadily decreasing over the last two decades. This is the first time the country has seen an increase since 1993. Officials said assaults are the main reason for the increase. “I think that, you know, the lack of jobs is one of the main reasons why a lot of crime is going on. If we get more jobs in places we can help some of these young people out there. They wont resort to a lot of violence.” said Jackson resident Korney Rice. A different survey by the FBI will be released on October 23. They anticipate a decrease in overall crime in the country.
