Weakley Co. Attempted Murder Suspects Appear in Court

DRESDEN, Tenn. – Two Weakley County attempted murder suspects were in court, Wednesday, accused of being involved in a shooting that sent a man to the hospital earlier this month. Both Amber Plunk, 27, and Steven McMillin, 39, have been behind bars since early October, after being charged with attempt to commit first degree murder, and conspiracy to commit first degree murder. According to deputies, the pair was involved in a shooting outside a home on Corinth Road in Weakley County. In documents, they said Plunk admitted to placing a pistol outside of the house, knowing McMillin was close by, and waking up her husband, saying she heard a noise outside. “He went into the living room and got a 22 rifle, went outside. She said that she heard two different sets of gunshots. One was louder and one was softer,” said Investigator Candace Winstead, of the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department. Plunk reportedly told investigators she went outside, and saw her husband had been shot in the chest and in the arm. Two more witnesses testified, including the shooting victim, Plunk’s husband. “We argued that Mr. McMillin had no motive or intent to do any harm to Mr. Plunk, that there was no evidence or any plan of conspiracy,” said Daniel Taylor, McMillin’s defense attorney. After hearing testimony from witnesses, and from both the prosecution and defense, the judge decided to bind the case over to the Grand Jury. “These are serious charges, and we knew that when we came here today, that this would probably go to the Grand Jury because charges like this normally do. There are some issues. It’s a very unusual case,” Taylor said. The case will go before the Weakley County Grand Jury on January 14 at 9 a.m. Bond for Plunk and McMillin has been set for $250,000 each, and they remain in the Weakley County Jail.
