BENTON COUNTY, Tenn.- Sheriff’s deputies said they arrested one man they believe stole three cars, and crashed two of them, ending their weekend search. Deputies arrested Leroy Stocker, 22 after a tip led them to his address, Monday. Investigators said they received a call that someone had stolen a vehicle around 1:30 a.m., Saturday. The car owner said he witnessed the suspect as he fled away in the car. Authorities said that owner then chased the suspect down the road where the thief lost control and crashed on the side of the road. Deputies said Stocker then ran off into the woods on foot. Deputies later searched the woods with tracking dogs but lost the scent. During the search, deputies found another stolen car crashed within a few miles of the search. A few hours later, around 4:30 a.m, investigators said a third stolen vehicle was reported. That vehicle was later found in the parking lot of a Methodist Church in Camden. Investigators said they found Stocker hiding in the back bedroom in an apartment complex, Monday morning. Stocker has been charged with three counts of felony motor vehicle theft, felony vandalism and leaving the scene of an accident. Officials said their investigation is ongoing and additional charges could follow.
