JACKSON, Tenn.- For many, the Thanksgiving holiday begins Wednesday, but for the Tennessee Highway Patrol, it started Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon, the Jackson District held a Thanksgiving gathering. Many of the department’s workers will spend the actual Thanksgiving holiday on the job, as they begin heavy saturation patrols Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. through Midnight Sunday. Troopers are urging drivers throughout the area to expect more company on the roads. “The high volume of traffic you can out here already on Vann Drive on the interstate, it’s starting to pick up,” said Lt. Brad Wilbanks of the Tennessee Highway Patrol. “Don’t let anyone make you mad and become aggressive. Be patient.” The THP is also enforcing the “No Refusal Law” during the holiday. If a driver refuses a field sobriety test, the officers can call a judge and get a search warrant for a blood sample. The counties in the Jackson District participating in the “No Refusal Law” during the Thanksgiving holiday are Chester and Weakley.
