Mount Pleasant mayor remains appointed position
MOUNT PLEASANT, Tenn. (AP) – The mayor of the city of Mount Pleasant will remain an appointed position after a resolution failed that would have allowed voters to elect the seat by popular vote. The Daily Herald reports that the vote by the city commission was a 2-2 stalemate this week, but there is another effort to change the government structure in the Maury County community, which currently operates on a city manager structure. A vote is scheduled for Dec. 3 to determine whether to enact a mayor-alderman form of government. Citizens for a Better Mount Pleasant is a local group that is seeking to implement a mayor and aldermen government, which would allow the city’s top official to be elected.
