Huntingdon Falls to Gordonsville in BlueCross Bowl

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Senior quarterback Payton Watson rushed in for what resulted as the game-winning touchdown and a two-point conversion as Gordonsville beat Huntingdon 21-20 in the Tennessee high school Class 1A state championship on Friday. After GHS (13-1) scored to make it 21-14 with 2:23 remaining, Huntingdon put together a 48-second scoring drive, ending as Glynn Hilliard rushed for a 34-yard touchdown. The Mustangs (12-3) lined up for a two-point conversion and senior quarterback Jacob Warbritton was tackled outside the end zone, keeping the Tigers on top. Warbritton needed 131 yards entering the contest to break the TSSAA single-season rushing yardage record, and ended with 163 yards on 34 carries for a career total of 3,082 yards. Watson, who ran for 99 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries and passed for 24 yards and a touchdown on 2-for-5 passing was named the game’s offensive MVP. Huntingdon’s Logan Diebold was the defensive MVP with seven tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. The win gives Gordonsville its second state championship and first since 1984.
