Dyersburg Officer of the Year Named

DYERSBURG, Tenn. – A West Tennessee organization with a mission to prevent drunk driving announced a Dyersburg officer as the Officer of the Year as part of a DUI awareness project in Tennessee. First responders throughout the West Tennessee area gathered to honor first responders for the 2011 Freeman Dudley Memorial Officer of the Year Award. Lt. Billy Williams, of the Dyersburg Police Department was honored for his integrity and leadership in Dyersburg. Williams told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News, “You do a lot for the community and it’s good for the community to turn back and present you with awards for the things you have done over the years.” Among the Officer of the Year Award, first responders from West Tennessee were awarded for their hard work in 2011 based on leadership and citizenship in the community. Sgt. Rob Marrison of the Newborn Police Department expressed to WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News his excitement to be awarded the 2011 Leadership Award. “It’s an outstanding feeling. We don’t have a lot of thank you’s come our way in law enforcement. It’s good that we can get together for something like this, ” said Marrison. Officers involved in the ceremony were given red ribbons to remind local residents to not drink and drive.
