Residents Protest Outside Congressman Fincher’s Office

MARTIN, Tenn- A peaceful protest escalated after some Weakley County residents chanted outside of U.S. Congressman Stephen Fincher’s office in Martin. About 10 protesters marched in front of the Republican representative’s office asking him to work toward a compromise to avoid our country going over the fiscal cliff, which would increase taxes for middle class families. After going inside of the congressman’s office, where no cameras were allowed, one of the protesters told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News he was threatened by someone inside. The person was not believed to be on Congressman Fincher’s staff. The congressman was not in the office, but the protesters left a message. “For the sake of us that have given this country the best that we have, please with a heart, please do the right thing and remember the middle class,” said Alma Jones, a Martin resident. A field representative for Congressman Fincher told protesters she would meet with them individually. They declined, saying they would like to meet with the congressman as a group.
