JACKSON, Tenn. – The winter season is right around the corner and the recent cold snap of cold temperatures has the Tennessee Department of Transportation preparing for potential snow fall. TDOT crews filled up a salt brine truck Thursday ready to spray the pre-treatment mixture of salt and water on Tennessee highways. There are more than 20 salt bins scattered across West Tennessee ready to treat roads if needed. “Any time we can pre-treat the highways when there is a winter storm forecast we would much rather save a life than not pre-treat,” said Nichole Lawrence. Lawrence said T-DOT is stocked for the winter with 28,000 tons of salt ready for use. She also said each salt brine truck is equipped to cover up to 50 miles of roadway.
