JACKSON, Tenn. – First United Methodist Church’s annual holiday service, not only celebrate the Christmas season, Sunday evening, but remembered those lost in Newtown, Connecticut. More than a hundred people gathered for the church’s annual Carols and Candles Service. Many said they look forward to this service, which includes the choir and symphony, all year. Members who organized the program said after the recent school shooting, they wanted the focus of the evening to include a remembrance for the 26 lives that were taken. “We hope to give people a reminder that light still shines,” said Dan Camp. “We want people to know hope is still present.” At the end of the service, candles were lit and as everyone sang the Christmas carol, “Silent Night.”
