Officers Assigned To Paris Schools

HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. – Its the first full week of the Spring semester and the Paris Special School District started it off with an armed officer assigned to each of its schools. “Currently were probably as safe as we’ve ever been having someone that’s vigilant someone around to check doors help us look for visitors,” said Principal Jason Scarbrough. Patrolman Jordan Klutts has been with the Paris Police Department for 5 years and say the middle schoolers are responding well to him. “I’m like the new kid at school they don’t know what to say to me and how to approach me yet,” said Klutts. Klutts is also a father and one of his sons attends Inman Middle School. He believes his kids are safer because of officers like him in the building. “I thought our schools were safe also and I’m sure everywhere that has had an incident thought their schools were safe as well its just another deterrent to keep somebody out of our schools,” said Klutts. Inman Middle School does have other safety tools in place like a buzzer system which could stop any unwanted intruders from coming inside. “I do feel safer and I do think the safety precautions were taking now even more so we’ve talked to our kids about procedures more,” said teacher Joey Brush. The director of the Paris Special School District Mike Brown said one full-time officer will be at all three schools within the district until the end of the school year.
