Some Out of Work After Storm

TOONE, Tenn- A local business is now open after last week’s storm caused them to close, leaving dozens of employees without work. Hooper’s Saw Mill is back up and running, at least partially. Owners said 36 of their 49 workers are back on the job. They estimated the damage to the building and equipment at more than half a million dollars. They said it could take weeks before they are fully functional. “We’ve been blessed a lot of ways,” said Sandy Hooper, whose brother owns the saw mill. “But right now we’re trying to survive and give men work.” Other business owners in the area said the storm caused a domino effect in the community. Alberta Wooden, owner of Aunt Berta’s, said many of her customers work at Hooper’s Saw Mill. “Some of them have come back to work but aren’t getting that many days, so that slows down my business,” said Wooden. Owners at Hooper’s Saw Mill said they expect to have all employees working within the next two week.
