Police: Man Sold Fake “Beats by Dr. Dre” Headphones

JACKSON, Tenn. – A man was arrested, Wednesday, after he allegedly sold counterfeit merchandise. Michael Milliken Jr., of Jackson, is charged with use of a counterfeit mark or logo over $1,000. The code is graded the same as theft so over $1,000 is a felony charge. According to the law, the value of the product is determined as the retail value of the legitimate product or in this case, approximately $2,700. According to a news release from the Jackson Police Department, a citizen contacted investigators and said he had purchased counterfeit merchandise. The alleged victim claimed he found an ad on Craigslist offering “Beats by Dr. Dre” studio headphones for sale. He said he contacted the person who had them listed and purchased a set. The man said that after the purchase, he observed they appeared cheaply made. Police contacted the manufacturer who determined the headphones to be cheaply made fakes made to resemble the real product “Beats by Dr. Dre.” The alleged victim set up another purchase and, this time, he was accompanied by Jackson-Area Law Enforcement Retailer Team (J-ALERT) investigators. When the seller showed up, he offered for sale the same product previously determined counterfeit. Investigators determined those headphones were fake and took Milliken into custody. Officers reported finding an additional eight pairs of the counterfeit headphones in his vehicle. Milliken was arraigned in Jackson City Court Thursday morning where a $3,000 bond was set. He is scheduled to return to court on March 21. The Jackson Police Department urges residents to take care when purchasing or conducting business on internet bulletin boards.
