HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn. – Investigators are still combing the area for clues where Peggy Alexander, 71, was found dead in a pool of blood. Next door neighbor Herbert Shelby has lived on North Pickwick Street for five years and said its always been quiet. “I never heard any disturbance so I was surprised,” said Herbert Shelby. Officers said the victim’s son discovered her body. The report said Alexander’s body was blocking the bedroom door and seemed to have trauma to the head. Shelby said he did not know the victim but rumors have been swirling since she was found. “As many things as I heard beating, stabbed and throat cut someone didn’t like her,” said Shelby. The report also stated there was an overwhelming smell of gasoline inside of the house and a blue jacket was found pushed up against the door with gasoline on it. Investigators believe the killer tried to set a fire to conceal the murder but the fire did not take. Investigators have not released a cause of death but her body has been taken to the medical examiners’ office in Nashville for an autopsy.
