Veterans Cemetery Steering Committee Meets

PARKER’S CROSSROADS, Tenn.- West Tennessee is one step closer to getting a veterans cemetary of its own. In a meeting held Thursday evening, the cemetery steering committee evaluated and decided on a location. Their first choice is Parker’s Crossroads in Henderson County. The committee thought this site would be appropriate because it was close to Interstate 40 and because of the connection this area has to the Civil War. The committee said the next step is to raise funds for the property. “We’re going to go to different businesses, people, military organizations like the VFW, American Legion, and what have you, throughout the about seven counties, that this is really going to affect and we’re going to go to all these people, the mayors of the counties and the city mayors and ask for donations,” said Chris Dangler, chairman of the Veterans Cemetery steering committee. The committee will still have to purchase the land which is expect to cost around $ 1million. They hope to lay their first veteran to rest by August of 2016.
