Educator of the Week – White

SAVANNAH, Tenn. – Amanda White is a third grade teacher at East Hardin Elementary School and loves working with young children. “They love to sing and still do some of the things younger children do but also they’re at that age where they’re more serious and enjoy things in life like reading and doing bigger activities,” said White. In her classroom, White said everyone works together as a team. “We do a lot of group activities and we work in small groups. That allows me to get closer to them and reach them one on one.” she explained. For this educator, it is these everyday moments that make up her favorite part of teaching. “Watching the kids learn and getting that ‘ah-ha’ moment when they figure out how to do something,” said White. White told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that these young students amaze her because they are always so eager to learn. Her students are self-motivated to learn, so when the light bulb moment happens, it is rewarding for her. “It feels amazing because you see the light in their eyes because they finally understand something they didn’t before.” White said.
