Latin Music Featured at Duo Guitiano

JACKSON, Tenn.-Thursday night, Jackson State Community College held the fifth annual duo guitiano concert. The term Duo Guitiano is a term that both performers use, cleverly combining the words guitar and piano. Doctor Amanda Virelles plays the piano and Dr. Carlos Castilla plays the classic Latin American guitar. They are both world renowned artists known for their sensible and profound music styles. Event organizers said they are happy they got the chance to bring the duo to Jackson. “Jackson State is trying to bring the world to our students. They don’t get to leave so we try to bring the world to them,” said Mary Wadley, associate professor of Spanish and English at Jackson State. “We’re trying to give them an international cultural experience, so these are performers that they might see in Carnegie Hall, but a lot of people can’t leave and go to Carnegie Hall, so we’re bringing Carnegie Hall to them.” More than 100 people attended Thursday’s night’s event.
