Vets Get Advice About College Opportunities

LEXINGTON, Tenn. – Dozens of West Tennessee veterans were in Lexington, Tuesday. They gathered throughout the day to learn more about how they could earn a college degree. Jackson State Community College and the University of Memphis hosted the first of two informational meetings designed specifically for veterans and their dependents. Representatives from the schools were on hand to answer question ranging from admission requirements to cost. “The best thing is to sit down and talk with our staff because in many cases it’s very individualized in terms of financial aid for veterans benefits,” said Bill Seymour, V.P. of Student Services for JSCC. “We can help them figure out how to access their educational opportunities.” The second reception is set for Thursday, April 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the University of Memphis, Lambuth Campus, inside Varnell-Jones Hall.
