Young Knoxville man on trial in hit and run deaths
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Prosecutors continue presentation of their vehicular homicide case against a young Knoxville man in a hit and run case.
Curtis Scott Harper, who is 23, is charged in the May 30 deaths of 24-year-old Chasity Elaine Thornell, her unborn child and 45-year-old Nelzon A. Soto.
The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/10VIkTE ) reported that prosecutors showed photos of Harper’s sport utility vehicle to jurors Wednesday, detailing a crumpled hood, smashed headlight and shattered windshield.
Investigators said Thornell and a friend ran out of gasoline near Soto’s house and he was fueling their car when Thornell and Soto were struck and killed.
Defense attorney James W. Price Jr. has told jurors Harper wasn’t drunk, and that he didn’t immediately realize that he had struck something or someone.
