State high court to hear appeal in 2005 matricide
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – The Tennessee Supreme Court has agreed to hear the appeal of a Memphis woman convicted of stabbing her mother to death as a teenager.
The Commercial Appeal reports (http://bit.ly/14h7Hqm) the case is expected to be argued in November.
In 2009, Noura Jackson was found guilty of stabbing Jennifer Jackson more than 50 times on June 5, 2005, in their home.
Prosecutors said the daughter clashed with her mother over the teenager’s drug use and partying and hoped to claim an inheritance.
Defense attorneys argued there was no forensic evidence linking Noura Jackson to the crime.
Jackson is now 26. Her conviction for second-degree murder and her 20-year sentence were upheld in December by a panel of the state Court of Criminal Appeals.
