Two People Wounded in East Jackson Shooting

EAST JACKSON, Tenn. – Neighbors around the area of Carver Street said crime around these apartments has gotten so bad that some feel they need to move. One neighbor who asked to not to have her name revealed said she just purchased a new dog, in hopes it will protect her until she can find a new place to live. “I’m trying to get up out of here,” said the neighbor. “I’m trying to move, but living in the ghetto you aint got no other choice.” Jackson Police said officers responded to shots fired around 3:00 Saturday morning. Investigators said when officers arrived, they found two gunshot victims. JPD says there were three people inside apartment 33, and two men trying to get inside when shots rang out. One man inside the apartment was struck on the shoulder. A suspect outside was hit in the thigh. Police said one of the men trying to enter the apartment was 18-year-old Jalyn Tyson. Tyson is currently being held in the Madison County Jail, charged with attempted murder and aggravated burglary. His accomplice is being treated for his injuries. Residents close to the scene said the way to keep safe in this neighborhood is to keep your head low and mind your own business. “I stay in my house,” said the neighbor. “I don’t bother nobody. That’s about it.” While WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News was speaking with witnesses on Caver Street, a violent fight broke out, summoning the police to the area for the second time in less than 24 hours. The neighbor said if you cannot handle the constant chaos it is best to leave. “I’m trying to get up out of here,” said the neighbor. “You can either deal with it or leave it. I’m trying to leave it.” Both gunshot victims are expected to make full recoveries.
