Jackson Bomb Squad Explains Boston Bomb

JACKSON Tenn.- Evidence recovered from the site of the Boston Marathon explosions suggested the bomb was homemade. Authorities said at least one of the bombs was possibly contained in a pressure cooker. “It’s going to contain that pressure,” said Sgt. Gary Benton, a member of the Jackson Bomb Squad of more than 15 years. “It’ll do a lot more damage to the surrounding people or facility.” The FBI also believed the bomber used nails, BB’s, and ball bearings. Benton told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News nails can be more dangerous than bullets because they can travel at 26,000 feet per second. “When you get a nail or a bolt traveling that fast, and it hits a human body, it’s going to do considerable damage to them,” said Benton. The Jackson Bomb Squad trains two times a month for situations like the Boston bombing. The FBI said evidence recovered from the scene will be taken to a lab in Virginia, where they will reconstruct the bomb used.
