Suit claims teen assaulted outside abortion clinic
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) – A Tennessee woman has filed a lawsuit claiming that her teenage son was assaulted by a pro-abortion rights activist outside an Alabama clinic.
Kristy Vogel, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., says her 16-year-old son was assaulted by a volunteer patient escort in front of the Alabama Women’s Center for Reproductive Alternatives on Dec. 1, 2012. Vogel’s son is part of a group of anti-abortion activists who organize regular prayer gatherings near the clinic.
Pam Watters, a pro-abortion rights organizer, told AL.com Friday (http://bit.ly/11rMnr0) the teen was blocking a sidewalk and the volunteer pushed his way past him. She says women’s rights supporters have begun sending money to help the volunteer hire an attorney.
The suit was filed Thursday in Madison County Circuit Court and Vogel seeks damages in excess of $10,000.
