Crystal Bridges to display Stieglitz Collection
BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) – Crystal Bridges Museum of America Art says the renowned Alfred Stieglitz Collection will go on display this fall – after years of wrangling in a Tennessee court over whether Fisk University could sell the collection to the Arkansas museum.
Last summer, a Tennessee judge approved a deal for Fisk to sell a 50 percent stake in the collection to the Arkansas museum created by Wal-Mart heiress Alice Walton. The financially strapped Fisk University received $30 million as part of the deal.
Tennessee’s attorney general had argued that selling any part of the 101-piece collection would violate the wishes of painter Georgia O’Keeffe, who stipulated that the collection never be sold.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports the collection will be on display at Crystal Bridges from Nov. 9 through Feb. 14.
