Park naming committee has 6 pages of suggestions
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A park naming committee is looking over citizen suggestions for new names for three Memphis City Parks that were earlier stripped of their Confederate identities.
The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/17NaRhJ ) reported that among the suggestions revealed Monday were Better Future Park and Welcome Center Park. But there was also a call to name one of them Two Dead Flies Park. The committee had six pages of suggestions for the parks that now have placeholder names. There were others, but Memphis City Council member Bill Boyd, who chairs the committee, struck them as being derogatory.
Someone leaked the private contact information of the committee members. Some received calls. Most had numerous emails, calling for the original park names to be restored.
Recommendations could come from the next committee meeting.
