Area Relief Ministries Extending Room in the Inn

JACKSON, Tenn.–During the cold winter months, local churches gave homeless people a place to sleep at night. Area Relief Ministries recognized churches and volunteers in downtown Jackson on Thursday. Local churches host homeless people in their buildings at night and provide meals. The program is called “Room in the Inn.” The program just finished up its sixth season. This year for the first time it will run year round, not just during the winter months. “Without the churches and the volunteers there would be shelter here in Jackson for single men,” said Lisa Peoples, Executive Director of Area Relief Ministries. The organization estimates about 3,500 volunteers gave more than 20,000 hours to the ministry this season. They helped about 100 homeless men.
