BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.-Monday night in Brownsville the taxpayers of Haywood County got the chance to voice their opinions on whether they would like to see the city and county governments combine into one entity to form a metro government. Haywood County Mayor Franklin Smith is a proponent of the effort that would see just one mayor, one council and combine all other government entities. Dozens of people came out to ask questions and hear more about how metro government could affect them. For many, though it boils down to money. “We are in a good bit of debt already and to put money into something we don’t know what we are putting money into and then after we find out what we are putting money into then we get to vote on it,” said Ginger Hathcock of Brownsville. Before Brownsville and Haywood County could combine into a metro government, both the city and county councils would have to approve it.
